At the centre of our initiative lies the Bongil Bongil Youth Collective (BBYC), serving as both a focal point for youth engagement and also an overarching framework for our projects.
With a diverse cohort of young individuals, the BBYC fosters a sense of belonging and empowerment.
In collaboration with young people and our community partners, we aim to harness our strengths, map our assets, and pool our resources. We work together so that young people have the necessary support and opportunities to flourish.
Bongil Bongil, revered as ‘a place of plenty’ by the Gumbaynggirr People, holds profound significance in our community. We pay homage to the Gumabaynggir People and their heritage, acknowledging their custodianship of this land.
We employ cross-context engagement, project co-design, and place-based approaches through these key components:
Bongil Bongil Youth Collective: This dynamic collective of diverse young people spearheads project design and delivery, drawing wisdom from their peers and the community.
Community Partnerships: Through our close collaboration with stakeholders, we ensure the development of inclusive and sustainable projects that leave a lasting impact in Toormina.
Project Advisory Group: Comprising community members, this group steers projects towards community-led governance, integrating shared decision-making processes, youth perspectives, and alignment with local priorities.
