Where We Meet is a core BBYC project, fostering connections for Toormina’s youth through meaningful activities and community engagement aiming to create a more connected, empowered, and resilient community.
Collaborating with organisations, schools, and community groups, ‘Where We Meet’ aims to break down barriers and improve access to resources. Through layered mentoring involving senior and junior mentees, the project promotes individual growth, volunteerism, and community service, contributing to a vibrant Toormina community.
Activating Spaces: ‘Where We Meet’ aims to enhance and support existing spaces and programs in Toormina within a more connected network of hubs for youth and community interaction. Central to this project is the utilisation of Toormina Community Centre as a hub for young people.
Central Platform: The project aims to create a more localised, youth-focused platform for accessing information on community events and resources. BBYC partners, including Jaanymili Girrwawaa Community Hub, Nyami Gawbarri, Grow The Music Studio, Toormina Community Library, and Boambee East Community Centre, collaborate to develop a comprehensive map aimed at promoting youth engagement and personal development. This guide will be circulated to schools and community groups through BBYC’s monthly newsletter.
Community Mentorship: Key to this project’s success is the engagement of a team of Community Mentors’ who guide and support the youth activation efforts. These mentors serve as facilitators, empowering young people to take ownership of their community involvement and fostering a sense of belonging.
