NAMBUCCA VALLEY OPEN STREETS FESTIVAL
THE YOUTH LED FESTIVAL IS SET TO EXPLODE INTO THE COMMUNITY THIS MONTH WITH A MASSIVE OFFERING OF MUSIC, FOOD, ACTIVITIES AND OF COURSE; FIREWORKS!
In early 2024, Becoming U partnered with Ellie Tree, the creator of YOUth Speak©, a youth engagement model, to empower a youth-led movement for positive change in the Nambucca Valley. The YOUth Speak project model has 4 critical stages: Youth Survey, Youth Forum, Youth Pitchfest and Youth-driven community-supported projects. Held on April 11, 2024, at Macksville Stadium, the forum involved over 200 young people and 40 adults from various local groups. Participants delved into survey results, discussed concerns, and brainstormed future projects. One of the projects that was pitched and has come to fruition is the ‘Open Streets Project’! Fully funded through TfNSW Open Streets Funding secured by Nambucca Valley Council, this youth-driven project is the result of support and collaboration between community, schools, different services and organisations. A wonderful effort, elevating the voices of young people for meaningful community impact.
After 100’s of suggestions & ideas from local youth in schools, through the website & from members of the Youth Event Crew, Wallace Lane & River Street Macksville is closing for the day to erupt into a huge community celebration for all ages!
A wide offering of food & treats, 2 stages with an exciting spread of seasoned and up and coming musicians, motorbike displays, art activities, Gumbaynggirr dance & story sharing, games & amusements & the Riverside Lounge space complete with exciting mocktails and elixirs, silent disco and lounge chairs to watch the finale fireworks in style!
A free bus services will run to & from the event from each corner of the Nambucca Valley, a vibrant Carnivale Parade with a special giant puppet and opportunities to work alongside the pros to help deliver the event young people who joined the Youth Event Crew. All of this is thanks to the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program grant which Nambucca Valley Council secured to produce this unmissable spectacular
