We’re excited to share something the BBYC have been working on behind the scenes — the new online home of the Bongil Bongil Youth Collective.

The BBYC brand-new website, www.bongilbongilyouthcollective.com, is now live, along with a fresh new logo that reflects who the are and what they stand for. (Thanks to the wonderful Gumbaynggirr artist Kev Dumas for his artwork)
But this launch is about more than a new look. It marks an important step in the journey of a collective that continues to grow, evolve and be shaped by the voices of young people in our community.
A space where young voices lead
At the heart of Toormina and the 2452 area, the Bongil Bongil Youth Collective (BBYC) brings together young people and community members to spark ideas, lead projects and create positive change locally.
The BBYC exists to build belonging, connection and opportunity — ensuring that young people are not just consulted but actively involved in shaping the spaces, programs and decisions that affect them.
Through collaboration with schools, community organisations, artists and mentors, the BBYC supports young people to develop skills, confidence and leadership while exploring their identity, culture and sense of place.
Why the name Bongil Bongil matters
The name “Bongil Bongil” comes from the Gumbaynggirr language and means “place of plenty.”
It reflects the richness of this community — its culture, creativity and the potential of the young people who call it home.
The new logo and website are inspired by this idea: that this place is full of possibility, and that when young people are supported to lead, incredible things can happen.
What the BBYC looks like in action
The BBYC is not just one program — it’s a collective of projects, partnerships and ideas created with and for young people.
From creative arts projects and music programs to youth-led events and community conversations, the BBYC provides multiple ways for young people to get involved and make their mark.
Recent initiatives have included:
- Creative workshops and exhibitions through the Place of Plenty project
- Youth music and storytelling through Bongil Bongil Youth Creators
- Community events such as the much loved ‘Table 2452’ that bring young people, families and organisations together
- Ongoing collaboration with schools, services and local groups to strengthen youth wellbeing and participation
Together, these projects are building a stronger sense of belonging for young people across the 2452 area.
Why a website matters
Until now, much of the BBYC’s work has happened in rooms, workshops, community spaces and conversations.
The new website gives us a place to:
- Share stories from young people and projects
- Highlight upcoming events and opportunities
- Celebrate the creativity and leadership of local youth
- Connect with families, schools and community members who want to get involved
Most importantly, it helps make youth voice more visible.
Be part of the journey
The BBYC is a collective — and that means the community is part of it.
Whether you’re a young person aged 12–24, a parent, a community member, or someone who simply believes in backing young people, there are many ways to connect.
Visit the new website to explore what’s happening and subscribe to their newsletter to stay up to date with projects, events and opportunities.
