While most people are only just stirring to the sound of morning kookaburras, a group of motivated young people are already lacing up their shoes and heading to Mission Training, Sawtell. While most people are only just stirring to the sound of morning kookaburras, a group of motivated young people are already lacing up their shoes and heading to Mission Training, Sawtell. Their destination? An early morning CrossFit session that’s become a weekly ritual of movement, connection, and community.
This initiative, running strong for over a year, is a partnership between BecomingU, Abcare, Coffs Harbour Police, interrelate and Youth on Track. Each week, buses pick up young people aged 12–18, bringing them together to exercise under the guidance of Mission Training owner, Jamie. But it’s about more than fitness—after training, participants share breakfast and a yarn before heading off to school, starting the day energised and supported.
The program has enjoyed consistent participation, with young people showing up week after week, building strength not only in their bodies but also in their sense of belonging and teamwork. The sessions have become a space where resilience, routine, and relationships grow side by side.
This project is a reminder of what’s possible when local organisations, community members, and young people work together—creating opportunities that set a positive tone for the day and build lasting foundations for the future.
