Free food, Nintendo, art, sports and good vibes every Wednesday arvo. Here's what's been happening at Macksville Youth Hub and why you should come check it out.

The Nambucca Valley Youth Council (NVYC) has been listening — and honestly, what young people in the valley are asking for isn’t that complicated. Somewhere to hang out that actually feels like it was made for them.

Because right now? That place didn’t really exist in Macksville. Most community venues weren’t designed with young people in mind, and that alone can be enough to put people off — especially if you’re already doing it tough, feeling a bit disconnected, or you’ve had not-so-great experiences with formal services before. A dedicated youth space takes that barrier away. Somewhere you can just walk in and feel like you belong.

That’s exactly what NVYC set out to create. As the official youth advisory body to Nambucca Valley Council, they pitched a 10-week pilot program — turning the Macksville Senior Citizens Hall into a Youth Hub. Council got behind it, and things kicked off on April 22nd.

Since then it’s been growing week by week, with new people showing up alongside familiar faces who keep coming back. Past the halfway point now, and workshops requested by the young people themselves are already locked in — art sessions, practical life skills like changing a tyre and checking your oil, Dungeons & Dragons, and more, with community members jumping in to help run it all.

So if you’re a young person in the Nambucca Valley aged between 12-18yrs — come drop in, it’s completely free! The Youth Hub is open every Wednesday from 3–5pm at the Macksville Senior Citizens Hall (next to the library). Come for the Nintendo, the food and snacks, the art, the ball sports, the games, or just to hang with people. There’s no entry fee, no sign-up, nothing formal. Just show up.

And follow @becominguproject on socials to stay across what’s coming — special events and workshops are being added all the time, all based on what young people actually want to do.
